Biography

Bill on a ShootBill McComish is a guy with an eye for the spectacular and the beautiful. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Bill moved to Canada where he first worked as a carpenter and later became a general contractor. He specialized in renovating older homes always seeking to retain the charm and character of their past while making them more comfortable and convenient homes for the owners of the present.

He and his wife Sue, a Registered Nurse by profession, have a passionate love of skiing, hiking, camping and traveling. They have skiied the slopes of Europe, North America and even the high Atlas Mountains of North Africa, and always taking photos along the way as Bill has been doing most of his adult life. Eventually their love of the mountains led them to purchase their first home at Lac Superieur overlooking Mont Tremblant ski resort, Quebec.

Moving to Squamish, which is midway between Vancouver and Whistler in BC’s spectacular coastal mountains in 1997, Bill and Sue designed and built their spectacular dream home which they now operate as NuSalya Chalet, one of Canada’s few Five Star B&Bs.

With a constant need to create, Bill undertook a photographic journey across Canada to capture its beauty and history. Along with his wife Sue they spent periods of time over a three year duration (2002-2008) travelling to all of Canada’s provinces whenever their time schedule and funds would allow. They travelled more than 100, 000 km, captured over 15.000 high resolution images, and spent many weeks researching the description and history for the images – 60,000 words in all.

One of Bill’s greatest joys is to head out into nature with his digital camera looking for just the right vantage point and the perfect lighting conditions to capture the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Canada.
Many of his images have been chosen for various promotional projects by graphic designers, newspapers, District of Squamish, Chamber of Commerce, regional websites, and the New Brunswick nature trust. Many have also been purchased from people around the world.

His unique website with its many photo galleries and informative text descriptions provides the visitor a one stop place to get a close glimpse of Canada and its history. Bill also plans to publish a book with selected images of Canada in the near future, and he also looks forward to capturing images at the up-coming 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Winter Olympic Games.
